Silverton High School Shooting: Silverton High School was placed on lockdown early Friday afternoon following reports of a potential active shooter on campus, the school district confirmed around 1:50 p.m.
Shortly afterward, the Silverton Police Department posted an update on Facebook indicating that there was ongoing police activity in the area surrounding the high school. Authorities urged members of the public to stay clear of the scene while emergency personnel responded to the situation.
According to preliminary information from a source close to the investigation, three individuals are believed to have been injured while running to safety following the incident. Their conditions have not yet been officially released.
In response to the unfolding situation, all schools within the Silver Falls School District have enacted perimeter security protocols as a precaution. Assistant Superintendent Anthony Rosilez emphasized that while the district understands parents’ concerns, they are urging families not to approach Silverton High School at this time.
Instead, parents are being directed to gather at designated reunification points near Silverton Middle School. While school officials initially suggested convening at the baseball field, police have since asked parents to report to the tennis courts, which are located adjacent to the field. The change was made to streamline coordination and ensure the safety of everyone involved.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, and additional updates are expected as more information becomes available. Law enforcement remains on-site, and the situation is being treated with the utmost seriousness as officials work to secure the school and attend to the injured.
